The reservation, check-in and check-out process with Brooks and Shorey was very pleasant, quick and easy; the unit was very nice and comfortable. The patio doors were difficult to open and do not lock; but overall, everything else was great.

Biggest issue I had was with the amenities. When the reservation was confirmed (gov't rate), I was told over the phone all that was included (beach chairs, video card, etc). Upon arrival, I was told that we did not get amenities on gov't rate. Would like to have known all that up front. Condo unit & pool were great - no big issues there.

We just wanted to get away for a few days & we chose the Islander because we knew we would enjoy. The unit was exceptionally clean and we enjoyed just relaxing in the furnished chairs & umbrella on the beach.
November 2008 visit

I have stayed at the Islander many times in the past. My husband & I used to own a condo there ourselves. My sister and I go to the Ft. Walton area annually to be visit our other sister who lives in Ft. Walton Beach. This stay was nice but there were a couple of disappointments that we do not usually have. One was the unavailability of the hot tub because of "fecal matter". Second, our final night there was virtually sleepless. There was much noise during the night. From either of our bedrooms, my sister and I heard the noise and was awakened frequently during the night. Was there construction in a nearby condo? The problem was discussed with the young lady on checkout. She had no insight in the matter; she made no apologies.

Quick trip between hurricanes
Larry G. from Birmingham, Alabama, United States, (Reviewed on 02 Oct 2008)
We had planned this trip several times, but always had to put it off because of a hurricane or some other situation. We finally got to go and had the time of our life. We are planning another trip in about 5 or 6 weeks and looking forward to going back to the Islander Resort, our selection for a beach vacation everytime.

The unit was pretty but what I liked most about it is that it wasn't directly over-looking the pool.

The Islander may not be the newest or most lavish condo in the area but I find myself returning there nearly every summer. The loaction is outstanding, Okaloosa Island is a quiet, less crowded section of beach and the physical location is about as close to the ocean as you can get. Not only great views up and down the coast but so close you can "feel" the ocean while relaxing on the balcony. I've stayed in 2 and 3 bedroom units. Some have different/nicer aaccommodations so if specifics are important to you review the photos of all available units and select the one the suits you best. I prefer to not be right behind the pool so usually opt for one on either end of the building. pool is great although I seldom frequent it. Plenty of restaurants close by and Destinf is an easy 8 miles up the road.

The best vacation we have had in seven years.
Vanessa S. from Bessemer, AL, United States, (Reviewed on 01 Jul 2008)
We have been going to Ft. Walton for vacation for the past seven years. We have stayed in three different condos and found The Islander to be the best. The pool was the main reason we chose The Islander. But the feeling of security, the convenience, the management, the accommodations and the amenities are the reasons we will come back. I would recommend The Islander Beach Resort & Condominiums to family and friends. The only negitive thing about our vacation is it just wasn't long enough.
awesome

Home away from home

Staying at the Islander for a week is a balm to the wearied soul. We have stayed there at least 5 times and it feels like home. This year, our designated condo was in the "other" building and upon opening the door, we realized this just Would Not Do. I called the office staff and explained. She immediately volunteered to move us to the building we love. A quick drive back down 98 ensued and we happily exchanged keys. Staff stayed a bit after closing time to make sure we were taken care of. We could stay elsewhere for less money, but we will ALWAYS be loyal to the Islander, thanks to the outstanding service we received ther.
Any chance of adding such workout equipment or complimentary passes to Gold's Gym? That would be most welcome.
Thanks so much!!
We have stayed at this resort many times. This particular two bedroom unit was lacking compared to others. it could have used some modernizing. Sheets did not feel crisp or fresh, carpet did not feel clean,

The mananger was not very helpful and actually they down right were rude. We did not get the correct assigned room number that we asked for and therefore we did not have enough beds for the people staying with us. We did not recieve free beach chairs as we were told.

We've stayed in the Islander 3 times and plan to stay there again this July. We love the location and the amenities, the condos are always clean and spacious, and the views are unbeatable.
