Guest Ratings & Reviews
Overall Very Pleasant
Terry H. from Hartselle, Alabama, United States, (Reviewed on 23 May 2010)
Kitchen cabinets were sticky, Plastic patio furniture was stained with dirt.
Entrance door shreeked loudly when it was opened or closed alarming the entire floor, bifold utility doors barely closed.
Furniture showed wear. Otherwise, very happy with unit...
Thanks for the vacation.
Great condo and experience.

We will always try to rent a condo at Gulf Side whenever we come to Fort Walton.
Furniture was not very comfortable and the worst thing was no internet access, especially since the weather was so bad when we were there.
A Traveler from Huntsville, AL, United States
I loved the beach view from GS202, but internet access is too common a need not to have it in a rental unit these days, anywhere, which is a great defiency for this unit. Also, a screen door to the balcony is a pretty solid and cheap investment for a rental unit, which I think most people would expect of a condo, but this was missing too. In the future, I think I'll stay in other units in the future for these reasons, as I have before, unless I'm advised of improvements in GS202.

no wifi
A Traveler from Euless, tx, United States, (Reviewed on 06 Oct 2009)
One of the reasons I chose your property was because on your web site it said wifi in all units. This was not the case. When we called we found out that only one unit in Gulfside is wired and was off for the season. The signal was available, but no access was granted and all that was required was a password.

Great location but room needed to be cleaned!
Carlos G. from Jacksonville, FL, United States, (Reviewed on 10 Sep 2009)
The bathrooms were not clean and I had to sweep the floors.........got a LOT of sand off of the floor.......definitely had NOT been cleaned!!!!

ROGER S. B. from Shreveport, LA, United States, (Reviewed on 24 Aug 2009)
We were very pleased with the location and the unit itself. Much more spacious than we expected for a single bedroom. Very quite and private overall. The rooftop pool is like being on a cruise ship almost. The only two areas of concern was the entry door threshold (drags and noisy) and the balcony door curtains....would recommend owner putting some type of darkening blinds or curtains, bright sun glare pretty tuff. We would recommend to a friend and will consider a stay there again hopefully next year. Thanks for a great time. ( We even got to ride out Claudette!

I wasnt happy with the 75 degree setting on the air, it was way too hot in room. We had to go buy a fan just to get through the week. I was also unhappy with our fold out bed, it was broken and couldnt be used. We had to just lay mattress on floor and sleep on it that way. We also had a hard time getting fridge to cool down enough to keep anything cold. There was a rule for this also to not adjust temp. Loved the location but I thought it was too much money for what we got.

This is our second visit to this property. Last summer we rented a larger unit for our entire family and liked it so much we came back just my husband & I .The furnishings in this unit weren't as nice but we enjoyed the stay.

Condo needs some renovation
A Traveler from Canton, GA, United States, (Reviewed on 16 Jun 2009)
On the overall the condo is very good, but a lot of things looked very old (like the noisy air conditioning), and some repairs are needed (it needed a two people effort to open the balcony doors, which was all rusty). We see some renovation is going on (new range on the kitchen, new water heater, new washer). Other than that the location is great, the pool is very good. We had a lot of fun.

Very Happy
Mark D. from Ft Walton Beach, Florida, United States, (Reviewed on 25 Feb 2009)
I rented the property for my Dad and Step Mom's visit. The enjoyed the property very much and were very happy with it's location and appeal. They will look to visit again. Thank You for making there stay a very relaxing one.
This condo was not extremely clean & there was a light bulb out, that was never changed. The roll away bed was broken. But, overall, for the location, it was a lovely spot & we did enjoy our stay at Ft. Walton Beach.

I was disappointed that the property did not meet basics standards. The curtian in the living room did not function. So they could not be closed. Also the drier did not work. It was my impression that both of these items were know problems and was to be addressed when I checked out. We probably should have been given an option to lease a different unit since these were known issues. Also we felt the carpet in the living room was in rather bad shape with stains. But, the carpet we can understand, but not the curtian. There was no privacy. We have previously rented 503 the last two years and it was in much better shape.

We have stayed at gulf side many times with my parents Thelma Clark. I have never stayed in this unit before and do not wish to again. I spoke to the owner who happened to be at the pool and ask how I liked 202, she said to make a list of things that need to be done. The carpet is filthy the chair pads are badly stained. No extra sheets in the unit. The sleeper sofa had crumpled up sheets on it when we pulled it out, so we had to wash them. No pillow cases for the extra pillows were available and to be honest the blankets there were thread bare and I would not use them because they did not appear clean. On the king size bed it had an egg crate mattress on top of the actual mattress, I wonder how sanitary that really is. Someone from another unit had borrowed our roll away beds. I was told to call a number to get a bed but it was $90.00 to have two beds deliverd. I called management back, she found me 1 roll away, but it was broken, maintenancce never showed up to fix it so we purchased an air mattress. We ended up leaving a day earlier because of the storm. Gulf side is a great place to stay and I will stay again just not in this unit, it neeeds work to say the least. Next year I will just ask for a different unit. If at all possible I would like a one night credit for leaving early due to the storm. thanks

My favorite beach vacation spot!
Denise Y. from Baker, LA, United States, (Reviewed on 15 Aug 2008)
We have been traveling there for many years, and love, love, love it! Stan, Valerie, and all of the staff of Brooks and Shorey are worth their weight in gold. They bend over backwards to make sure you have everything you need, and the properties are very clean and comfortable. Just wait till you see the view! Can't wait to see yall in September!

OVERALL GREAT VACATION!
A Traveler from Candler, NC, United States, (Reviewed on 15 Aug 2008)
really the only complaints that I have are are I believe the carpets in the condo need to be replaced with new carpet or tile and there was a broken chair in the living room and the sofa cushions were very flat and worn out. I enjoyed the lay out of the condo and loved how close to the beach it was and we are planning on going back to stay in the fall, although we are picking another condo to try.
WHY DO THESE OWNERS NOT GIVE A CARE ABOUT THEIR CONDO?
JAMES H. from MARTINEZ, GEORGIA, United States, (Reviewed on 29 Jul 2008)
the condo had no ceilinng fans, the bed had to be the original bed-so very uncomfortable, not enough blankets or pillows, no rollaway as advertised, verticle blinds falling off wall and many blind blades missing making privacy from the beach a joke, the stove had a burner i could not use, the toilet rocked and was hard to flush, a new couch but a taped up chair, not equipped with enough pots or pitchers-glad i brought my own, carpet has to be the original. it was filthy. in gerneral of the last 3 times we've stayed at this property, i was very unhappy. i also reported this to the management. they sympathized and said that this owner never did much to the condo. had i known that the property was in such bad repair(i paid 1500 for the week)i would have gone elsewhere. this is the last property we stayed in before our daughter was killed in a wreck upon returning home in 1992 and we are very sad that we rented such an outdated and uncomfortable property.
A Christian family vacation
RUSSELL R. from DOTHAN, AL, United States, (Reviewed on 29 Jun 2008)
Wonderful location, also good amenities. The Southern Star Cruise was a warm friendly atmosphere. Capt Steve gave good references for other attractions and good places to eat presented in a Christian environment. We have rec. Brooks and Shorey, SouthernStar Cruise, Sextons, Fort Walton, The Temple Mounds, The Harbor Village, and Crab Island to many friends and family. We also sent a beautiful postcard of Dothan to Capt Steve and Wendy thanking them for a beautiful cruise.

We have stayed 6 or 7 times at the Gulfside. We love the area, beach, resturants, etc., but units 202 and 203 could use some furniture upgrades and a better bed. The unit 202 needs a little attention with fresh paint and maybe a little upgrade in furniture. My family and I always come back because we don't require the fanciest of condos since we live and play in the sand and just need a place to shower and sleep. We thoroughly enjoy the pool on the roof and covered parking. We'll be back.
Love this property!

We really loved this property. Our only advice would be to update the inside of this particular condo. The carpet and furniture had stains, but otherwise it was great!!

We loved the location, it was convenient to everything and yet had a secluded feel to it!
Great location away from the main traffic and mega structures. It is what you really want for a relaxing stay.

Our rental was spacious and in a great location. It could use a little updating, but was otherwise very nice. The staff made check-in and check-out very easy. We really enjoyed the amenities such as free beach service.

Usually Great Place, This Time Not So
A Traveler from Daphne, AL, United States, (Reviewed on 09 Apr 2008)
I've stayed at Brooks and Shorey rentals at least six times and always had nice condos. This last one was in poor repair and dirty but since it was only two nights and we spent most of the time on the beach or out, we stayed put. Overall, the location and the units are usually great but this time I was disappointed.
Don't stay here
A Traveler from West Monroe, LA, United States
We complained to the manager of the things that were wrong with our condo only to hear that this condo was not one of their better ones. I sent about 4-5 e-mails to Brooks and Shorey after we returned home and never heard not one response from them.
