A huge 1.5 million acre wetland preserve filled with exotic
flowers and plants, rare birds, turtles, otters, manatees
and of course crocodiles and alligators. The Everglade National
Park features a 15 mile walking trail for the adventurous
and is also the destination for fantastic swamp boat and kayak
trips.
A shallow, slow moving 40 mile wide river, the Everglades
is one of the most unique ecosystems on the Earth. Created
in 1947, the Everglades National Park was created to protect
this delicate area filled with exotic birds and endangered
wild animals. This huge 1.5 million acre park is accessible
by a scenic two lane road that winds south from Florida City.
Highlights of the northern portion of the Everglades National
Park include Shark Valley, a 13 mile paved road ideal for
biking and tram tours.
For those who want to experience more natural wildlife sights
and adventure, the southern Flamingo Visitor Center offers
an assortment of nature museums, observation towers, hiking
trails and park ranger guided canoe and swamp boat tours.
Teeming with exotic bird, the Gumbo Limbo Trail and Anhinga
Trail are amazing experiences for those looking to see rare
animals in their natural environment.
The ranger guided canoe trips are some of the most popular
attractions within the park. While visitors slowly help to
paddle, experienced ranger guides point out the rare vegetation
and wildlife as well as to spot the lurking alligators. It
is definitely a camera taking opportunity.
For those looking to buzz through the Everglades to remote
areas, the swamp boat rides outside of the park area are another
fantastic experience
